Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting BBC Radio Sussex at Meadowcroft, where we showcased the wonderful intergenerational activities that take place between our residents and the local nursery children who visit us every week.
Research by Age UK shows a clear link between organised activities and wellbeing. Groups of people with a shared interest and purpose are more content. The resulting engagement can also lead to physical benefits.
Residents have access to a full suite of activities through our two dedicated activities coordinators, whether it is guest speakers, musical afternoons, film shows, pet visits, arts and crafts, or visits from the local nursery and primary school. Residents are sure to feel engaged and sustain both physical and mental health.
Activities are tailored to the individual and our staff will strive to meet the wishes of our residents whether its fish and chips from the local chippy to watching sport with a fellow enthusiast!
We also love to celebrate key events and milestones with our residents whether it’s our Christmas party, Easter get-togethers or celebrating birthdays with delicious cake, there are plenty of opportunities for celebrations at Meadowcroft.
Smell & TellTM is a mood-boosting board and memory game created by the Givaudan Foundation – the charitable arm of Givaudan. Designed for use in residential care homes the game uses familiar fragrances – such as coffee, pine and chocolate - to evoke memories and spark conversations of those taking part.
As part of an initiative running across various Givaudan locations to support communities strongly affected by the effects of Covid-19, a team of volunteers created Smell & TellTM, a mood bosting game comprising a board and memory game designed to be played by residents of varying abilities, in care homes. Every year, Meadowcroft unites as a community to organise events dedicated to raising funds for local charities. These gatherings not only serve as platforms for fundraising but also as opportunities for our residents to feel a sense of belonging and camaraderie while contributing to the well-being of others in need. The memories created during these events, stay with us long after the events have ended.
Overall, our annual fundraising events at Meadowcroft are much more than just opportunities to raise money for charity. They are expressions of our values, our commitment to our community, and our dedication to making a positive difference in the world around us. Our charity events include; 70’s day, making lavender bags for the local food bank and a mad hatters tea party with the local nursery children of Shoreham.
